Article Abstract:

London and Regional Properties, MEPC, Whitbread Property, Salmon Developments, Burford Holdings and Farrho, a joint venture of Lonrho and Farhall Developments, have all been shortlisted for Bromley council's large-scale scheme to revive Crystal Palace in south-east London. The successful bidder will purchase the 5.26 ha site on a long lease, and the development is due for completion at the end of 1999. At present, only the terraces of the original Crystal Palace, a Victorian building destroyed by fire in 1936, remain.

Eastern Electric has been instructed by Barking Reach Co and Bellway Homes, which are heading a consortium of developers building a key 202 ha scheme at Barking Reach, east of London, England, to remove 10.25 miles of overhead power lines and 15 pylons. This follows concern about possible links between overhead power lines and cancer. The move will cost English Partnerships, from which the consortium will seek grant assistance, more than 3 million pounds sterling.
