The Australian advantage for Asia-Pacific regional headquarters
Article Abstract:
Australia is providing an attractive market for regional headquarter locations due to the high ratio of its managerial pool to its skilled labor. Apart from this advantage, Australia also boasts of the lowest office rentals, which are 33% to 50% lower than that of Singapore's; the highest per per capita computer use and the low managerial level salaries, which are lower than those of Hong Kong's, Singapore's, Taiwan's or Tokyo's. An added advantage are Australia's Western-styled economy and its location, which allows its time zone to be comparable to that of Asia's, which coincides with the closing of North American business and the opening of European business.

Location incentives are unfair and poorly justified
Article Abstract:
Business incentive programs are unfair tactics used by many communities to win corporate location decisions. They distort the decision-making process by shifting the focus away from the realistic factors that predict the success of businesses, which are the location's business climate, quality of life and its ability to meet specific needs. Instead, these programs offer attractive features that embody the ideal environment for those projects. Communities should develop a policy guideline to optimize the benefits of incentive packages and avoid becoming victims of false promises. Some factors to consider when developing this guideline are discussed.
