The principal-agent relationship in real estate brokerage services

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to examine the principal-agent relationship between a property owner and his broker. The owner is expected to arrange a contract which will give the broker incentive to sell the property while maximizing owner's expected return. Broker payment systems are then classified into fixed-percentage commission, flat-fee and consignment methods. Results show that commission payments encourage the development of an optimal contract.

Inflation, taxes, and the demand for housing

Article Abstract:

Inflation may affect both whether a family will choose to buy a house, and, if so, what kind or quality of a house will be bought. Surprisingly, it would appear from these results, that inflation influences home buying in a negative way, even though households may bring good returns on investments in times when it rises quickly.

The report of the President's Commission on Housing: policy proposals for subsidized housing

Article Abstract:

Housing facilities are lacking and below standards. The situation is critical in most areas. The Reagan administration plans a housing allowance program, but there is very little chance for passage of such legislation. Neither Republicans nor Democrats favor such a social program.
