Utilities adjust to the 1990s, put new emphasis on existing business
Article Abstract:
Utility companies in the US are adjusting to the recessionary 1990s by focusing on retention and expansion programs for existing businesses. These can range from offering energy conservation audits of existing facilities of their current clientele to load management training and incentives, to providing financial incentives for facility expansions. For new or prospective clients, utilities also offer area location, energy conservation and energy cost analyses and a myriad of site selection services. A crucial issue for utilities, though, is the impact of environmental issues on their operations.
