A French culture course with Minitel: comme si on etait la

Article Abstract:

Teaching French with Minitel offers students the chance to interact with French culture. Students access a variety of texts of the most recent cultural importance via computer. A teacher of a third-year course in French culture conducted almost solely in French recounts her experiences. The computer skills of students ranged from computer illiterate to computerphobes before the course. The students purchased computer time instead of a textbook. The experience was positive, the students learning about French culture from a mass of unfiltered data which encouraged them to draw conclusions of their own.
