Beyond conventional wisdom: USAID projects, interorganizational linkages, and institutional reform in Peru
Article Abstract:
The US Agency for International Development (USAID)-supported application of interorganizational linkages and decentralization as a development strategy for economic development in Peru was analyzed. The USAID supported national-level public sector organizations which in turn provided support to departmental development corporations (CORDES), which are decentralized development agencies. The linkages between the CORDES and national-level organizations not only led to efficient implementation of USAID projects but also led to crucial institutional reforms at the national level.

Household work as a deterrent to schooling: an analysis of adolescent girls in Peru
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to analyze the premise that household work is a major deterrent to schooling by examining determinants of hours spent in household chores and in school by adolescent girls in Peru. Results showed that the mother's presence significantly minimized school hours, and at the same time increased the possibility of enrollment. Girls with more educated mothers and in better living environments spent fewer hours doing household chores and more hours in schools. Those with preschool-age siblings did more household work and spent less time in schools.
