Charles O. Hucker: 1919-1994
Article Abstract:
Charles O. Hucker, emeritus professor of Chinese and history at the University of Michigan, died at the age of 75 on November 14, 1994. Hucker was chairman of Michigan's Department of Far Eastern Languages and Literatures. His publications include 'A Dictionary of Official Titles in Imperial China' and 'China's Imperial Past.' After graduating from the University of Texas, Hucker advanced to the rank of major and received a Bronze Star during World War II, later obtaining a Ph.D. degree in Chinese from the University of Chicago.

Jack L. Dull: 1930-1995
Article Abstract:
Jack L. Dull, professor at the University of Washington and an expert in the history of Han China, died on January 18, 1995, after suffering from cancer. He participated in the Art History and Han Studies Delegations to the People's Republic of China sponsored by the National Academy of Sciences. Dull was regarded as an exceptional teacher and was frequently involved in scholarly conferences and colloquia. He also served for 20 years as director of the University of Washington's East Asia National Resource Center.

Article Abstract:
Piet van der Loon was a noted expert in Chinese language and culture. He chaired Chinese studies at Oxford University from 1972-1987 and spent his retirement years still conducting research and fieldwork.
