Erotic storytelling: sexual experience and fantasy letters in 'Forum' magazine
Article Abstract:
Many letters published in the magazine 'Forum' which deal with sexual experiences and fantasies share common features which suggest that they can be regarded as a folklore genre. The common characteristics include use of a formulaic opening and closing, an announcement that the experience being related is personal, self-centered narrative, chronological plot development, elements of the 'bragging' storytelling tradition, inclusion of sexually arousing details and expression of a traditional and personal attitude while soliciting audience response.
