Francophone African literature and the hexagon: building bridges for the new millennium
Article Abstract:
Francophone African literature is gaining increasing attention and importance in French studies. It is important, however, to consider francophone African literature within its salient contexts, including linguistic, historical, national, regional, and pan-African factors. Resources include specialist bookstores in Paris, associations for scholars in African literature and African studies, and an electronic mailing list devoted to the subject.

Traveling in Old and New worlds with John Jea, the African preacher, 1773-1816
Article Abstract:
It is argued that John Jea, an early exsalve narrativist, presented a dichotomous, unrealistic, but characteristically American idea, of the relationship between slavery and freedom. Jea describes the limits on his freedom, but appears unable to countenance them as limitations. His accounts of slavery and freedom lead to the question of understanding why freedom has been sol valued in American ideology.
