Article Abstract:

Issues are discussed regarding the contradiction in the German identity of the philosophy of the Enlightenment and the assumption of the right to dominate. The latter culminated in the Holocaust. The newly united Germany needs to create a new past by binding the political, religious and philosophical strands of its history.
