India in 2006 has taken great positive strides in improving its economy and also in becoming a big power in the international arena. India's strategic partnership with the United States gives it a greater influence on important international political, economic and security issues, and its improved political cooperation with Beijing has ensured that the expanding international competition for energy resources and trading markets remain demilitarized.

Article Abstract:
Propelled by an impressive economic performance in recent years, India engaged actively as a global player in international affairs, particularly in relation to the United States. Sustaining this drive for engagement would, however, require both deft geopolitical management and overcoming continuing serious challenges at home.
