"Islands in an archipelago": the German dramatized novel
Article Abstract:
The German dramatized novel was popular during the last 20 years of the 18th century. The writers of such works abandoned the traditional reflection and explanation of narration in favor of plot advancing through dialogue attempting to recreate a sense of biography and history. This genre is sociologically significant because it reflected the fragmented nature of the culture, and the desire of individuals to make fiction lively through performance.

Into the heart of darkness: Switzerland, Hitler, Mobutu, and Joseph Conrad in Urs Widmer's novel 'Im Kongo.'
Article Abstract:
Urs Widmer challenges the status quo of eurocentral views and racial superiority in his novel "Im Kongo." By turning his main characters literally black and by exposing some of Switzerland's war collaboration with the Nazis, Widmer also identifies ongoing Swiss colonial attitudes towards foreigners today. The author also links xenophobic instances of the past to the 1990s. In the end, being black is preferable to being white.
