The work of Grillparzer is reviewed, which endeavors to examine a close relationship shared by the comedy and the three completed final tragedies. The analysis establishes the unique analogies between Weh dem, der lugt! and each of the three posthumous plays and outlines those features, which the four works, that are reviewed, have in common.

Michel Foucault is used to help interpret the depiction of power relations in the Austrian playwright Elfriede Jelinek's 'Krankheit der modernen Frauen.' Drs. Heidkliff and Hundekoffer, the play's principal male figures, are a parodic enactment of medicine's confrontation with disease.
