Myanmar in 2007: a turning point in the "roadmap"?
Article Abstract:
The article reviews the turbulent domestic politics of Myanmar in 2007. The politics drew global condemnation because of the brutally suppressed anti-government demonstrations by its military regime that also turned down the United Nations proposal of holding a meaningful dialogue with opposition parties and went forward with their own roadmap to political transition.

Preconditions and prospects for democratic transition in Burma/Myanmar
Article Abstract:
Dissident leader Aung San Suu Kyi's releases from house arrest in 1995 and 2002 came about under differing conditions. The 1995 release was based on that regime's overestimation of Myanmar's prosperity and political stability, while the later release was a tacit recognition that these were erroneous assumptions.

Myanmar in 2006: Another year of housekeeping?
Article Abstract:
The year 2006 witnessed further consolidation of the Myanmar military government, which is keen on consolidating its power and institutionalizing military rule. International pressure and punitive measures have not held back its agenda, raising doubts about possible public welfare measures by the regime.
