The male muses of romanticism: The poetics of gender in Novalis, E.T.A. Hoffmann, and Eichendorff
Article Abstract:
A new dimension of the feminine Romantic poetic production is presented, the poets of gender reported as Novalis, E.T.A. Hoffmann, and Eichendorff, which reveals that each text, questions the traditional female gendering of its own poetic ground presenting a counterparadigm in which the process of poetic production is coded as male. Thus the Romantic destabilizes conventional modes of gender and subjectivity and suggests that gender itself is produced poetically.

Dorothea Veit-Schlegel's 'Florentin': Constructing a feminist romantic aesthetic
Article Abstract:
The feminist Romantic aesthetic concept in 'Florentin' has been largely ignored. Dorothea Veit-Schlegel parodies masculinity in her book and thus anticipates the later essentialist dilemma of writing with a female voice. In response to the Jena Romantic masculine art form, the artist and foreigner Florentin flounders in his attempts to fit in, to find his ideal woman, and to find himself in this bourgeois world conspicuously empty of adequate male role models.
