Local events that occurred in 1996 at Philadelphia, PA, are presented. Some of the highlights ware the Ridge administration's hiring of an advertising firm to promote Philadelphia and the counterfeiting of $20 bills by a local high school student with the use of a home computer.

Former Philadelphia Zoo curator Dave Wood has filed a $300,000 lawsuit against his former employer for alleged conspiracy and defamation of character. Wood was terminated in Nov. 1995 for allowing a zoo keeper to ride an African elephant in public.
