Are you getting too much sex in your ads?
Article Abstract:
The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) had a 33% increase in complaints in 1995, whilst the Independent Television Commission had 3,432 complaints covering 1,204 advertisements and the Broadcasting Standards Council received 11% more complaints about sex, violence and offensive subjects. The greatest worry is the impression such advertisements have on children, according to research by the ASA. A recent controversial issue is the advertisement for condoms which features the Prince of Wales kissing the Princess on their wedding day.

Honest, legal ... but decent?
Article Abstract:
Many observers feel that some UK advertisers are pushing against the boundaries of decency as they make great efforts to ensure the best possible fit between a television advertisement and a television programme or between a printed advertisement and the magazine in which it appears. Language and tone have become vital, and this is prompting some advertisers to emulate vocabulary and images being used in editorials. In some cases, this is attracting criticism from the Advertising Standards Authority.

It may be flat, but it sure isn't boring
Article Abstract:
The challenge of animating inanimate objects can be very enjoyable, according to animator Daniel Greaves. He has been working on his half-hour animation 'Flatworld,' which is to be shown on television in the UK at Christmas 1997, since 1992. The project was extremely time-consuming, but this was not a cause of concern for Greaves. The film was in production for two years, involving a team of 100 people. Progress was slow, but Greaves remained enthusiastic and inspired.
