Lord Newborough

Article Abstract:

'Micky' Wynn was a Sub-Lieutenant in 1942 who later became Lord Newborough, and who played an important role in a riad on a port on the Atlantic, Operation Chariot. He was seriously injured in this raid, and taken prisoner. He was later awarded honors for his bravery. He escaped from his camp and was sent by the Germans to Colditz camp, and was repatriated in Jan 1945 on medical grounds. He became a farmer when the war ended, and inherited his title and lands in 1965.

Roy Howard

Article Abstract:

Army glider pilot Roy Howard was called up at the age of 19, joining the Royal Corps of Signals. He was posted to the Army's Y Services, and intercepted German signals for analysis at Bletchley Park. He volunteered for the Glider Pilot Regiment, and was one of the first Allied troops to enter France on D-Day. Following demobilization in 1946, he worked for a radio manufacturer and then for stationery firm Waddington's.

Captain Brian de Courcy-Ireland

Article Abstract:

Naval officer Brian de Courcy-Ireland was born in Doncaster, England, in 900. He entered the Royal Naval College on the Isle of Wight in 1913 and joined Bellerophon as a Midshipman in 1916. On the outbreak of the second world war, he was second in command of Newcastle.
