1998 state elections: new players, same challenges

Article Abstract:

The public and media should also focus on state and local elections because these events serve as laboratories of democracy. They also affect issues which confront the field of civil engineering. Thirteen persons will serve for the first time when 36 individuals take their oath of office as governors in Jan 1991. Fob James Jr of Alabama and David M Beasley of South Carolina were unfortunate not to be reelected. ASCE section should pay attention to these political changes because a new state administration brings with it a new agenda and personalities.
