A Lesson from Ceramics
Article Abstract:
Scientific understanding of fundamental process of the earth's mantle is difficult to achieve due to the physical properties of mantle conditions. Ceramic perovskites provide a good analogy for the silicate perovskites in the mantle, when studied under rigorously controlled conditions. Such studies suggest a rich high-pressure chemistry of hydrated and anhydrous perovskites in silicates.

Polymorphic phase transitions in liquids and glasses
Article Abstract:
Research indicates that a number of liquids exhibit rich thermodynamic behaviors suggesting multiple liquid phases. These liquid-liquid phase transitions are differentiated by density rather than chemical composition.

How much do we know about mantle thermochemistry?
Article Abstract:
Thermochemical studies of phase transitions of the earth's mantle using several approaches have provided consistent results for some phase equilibria. Unanswered questions about mantle thermochemistry are discussed.
