A Seismic Look Under the Continents
Article Abstract:
Continental mantle studies have traditionally made the assumption that there was uniformity from region to region, but the use of seismometers have indicated that there the continents are more variable in composition. In order to fully understand the beginning and evolution of continents, there must be detailed geological, geophysical, and geochemical mapping.

A New Look at MHC and Autoimmune Disease
Article Abstract:
There is a genetic relation between certain autoimmune diseases and certain kinds of major histocompatibility complexes (MHCs). A new study of nonobese diabetic mice suggests that the genetic association results from altered thymic selection, in which T cells escape selection in the thymus due to poor self peptide-binding properties of MHC class II molecules.
