A comparative study of managerial features between public and private R&D organizations in Korea: managerial and policy implications for public R&D organizations
Article Abstract:
Three pairs of government-sponsored research institutes (GSRIs) and private research and development (R&D) organizations in Korea were examined to compare their strategic goals, organizational characteristics, attitudes of individual researchers and roles of top managers. The results showed that GSRIs, as compared to private R&D organizations had relatively less clear strategic goals and very broad R&D activities. In addition, top management at GSRIs played a biased external role to gain institutional legitimacy.
