Article Abstract:

The European Space Agency (ESA), the European counterpart of NASA, was established in the early 1960s. The European space program was focused on satellite launches while the US and the Soviet Union struggled to outpace each other in outer space exploration. However, a crisis started in ESA after the Cold War ended in 1991. Previously, the Cold War united the European nations which felt the need to be unified in competing with the US and the Soviet Union. This motivation was no longer present after the Cold War.
