A harlequin mystery; can a decade-long banding study save these western sea ducks from the same fate as their endangered eastern cousins?
Article Abstract:
Harlequin ducks have been declared an endangered species by the Committee on the Status of Endangered Wildlife in Canada and listed as a candidate for protection by the US. Thus, efforts are being made to save the duck species, such as the studies and programs of the Harlequin Conservation Society.

The people's Paleontology Project
Article Abstract:
The Paleontology Project was formed by Dr. Rolf Ludvigsen and Deborah Griffiths in 1992. The program aimed to encourage beginners in paleontology and enhance fossil research in British Columbia. Its success was proven by the massive response of local volunteers who participated in the project.

There are more than 70 species of thatching ants in North America. Ant colonies live in thatched mounds carefully constructed out of accessible vegetation. The organization of the colony is discussed.
