A new assault on HIV
Article Abstract:
A new class of anti-HIV drugs is reviewed that emerged with the introduction of the protease inhibitors and curbs the action of an enzyme that is critical to a late stage of viral replication. HIV replicates so rapidly that a short trial could be used to determine whether a drug is attacking the pathogen in the body and among the other classes of drugs that have reached late-stage trials are integrase inhibitors, which undermine an enzyme that allows the viral-made DNA to integrate into the host DNA to produce new viral RNA.

Selfless giving
Article Abstract:
French researchers have revealed that biochemicals from the mother could get directly involved in the development of the child's embryo and fetus which might help reveal the causes of several diseases. The researchers used female mice genetically engineered and found that serotonin is supplied by the mother before the fetus has the capacity to make its own.

Hitting the genetic off switch
Article Abstract:
RNA interference could be the mechanism through which successful gene silencing therapies are developed. Enthusiasm is tempered by the knowledge that it will be several years before clinical trials will deliver evidence that such therapies are effective.
