United effort triumphs

Article Abstract:

A letter-writing campaign has apparently succeeded in convincing the government of Newfoundland and Labrador to block plans for a golf course in Windmill Bight Provincial Park. The golf course could have adversely impacted sand dunes and bogs that act acs unique bird habitat.

Ukkusiksalik

Article Abstract:

Wager Bay, Nunavut, and much of the surrounding watershed, will become Canada's newest national park, named Ukkusiksalik (which means, 'the place where there is stone that can be used to carve pots and oil lamps'). The park will include over 23,000 sq km.
