Structural design: New Embassy rises on the Potomac

Article Abstract:

The five-story glass and concrete House of Sweden will have a distinct presence on the Potomac River when the construction concludes in early 2006. The buildings engineering was not so simple and among the significant challenges at the site were the designing of a foundation to withstand a 100-year flood and working around obstructions below grade.
