An antibiotic resistance fighter

Article Abstract:

The knowledge of the fundamental process that allows a bacterium to undergo rapid mutation can be used to provide a never-before-tried approach to overcoming bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Floyd E. Romesberg saw the potential for a pharmaceutical, a small molecule that could be administered orally along with an antibiotic.

Andrey Rzhetsky, a research scientist at Columbia University, has developed an automated search tool that would identify networks of overlooked relations among genes and proteins. This search tool known as Gene ways shows the potential for text mining to extend bibliographic analysis to unify the full range of human knowledge.
