Beyond Babble: A text-generation method and computer program for composing text, music and poetry

Article Abstract:

A method for creating sound poetry and text/sound music with a detailed description of original algorithms for manipulating characters representing phonemes through a computer program called Beyond Babble is presented. The applications of this program are explored by composing text/sound etudes synthesizing well-known texts with the method.

Artificial phonology: Disembodied humanoid voice for composing music with surreal languages

Article Abstract:

The core techniques used to create an artificial phonological system for Sacra Conversazione, a short opera in five acts featuring human singers, artificially synthesized voices and complementary electro-acoustic sound are examined. A discussion of lessons learned throughout the process of composing with such techniques is presented.

Experiments with whistling machines

Article Abstract:

A series of experiments performed with a machine called Universal Whistling Machine (U.W.M.) capable of synthesizing human whistles and canary song is described. A broad overview of all issues that U.W.M. touches upon, including animal-machine interaction is presented.
