Article Abstract:

The biotechnology industry has been in a slump in the early 1990s as the overall value of biotech stocks has declined 50% from Jan 1992 to May 1993. The failure of several biotech-based sepsis treatments and investor fears about drug price controls as part of President Clinton's health care reform package are major reasons for the industry's financial problems.

Scientists studying the impact of the Chernobyl power plant explosion on Apr 16, 1996, cannot account for 10 to 50 tons of uranium oxide fuel that had been contained inside destroyed reactor number 4. Three of the most likely explanations for the missing uranium oxide are discussed.
