Birder's year-round wonderland: Nova Scotia's Cape Sable IBA

Article Abstract:

Cape Sable Island is an Important Bird Area (IBA) because of four globally significant species, Atlantic brant, semipalmated sandpiper, semipalmated plover and short-billed dowitcher. Mud flats between Cape Sable Island and The Cape provide rich feeding grounds and the island provides a natural funnel to attract migratory birds.

A steel serpent enters Eden: how tempting is the Mackenzie Gas Project for Canada's North?

Article Abstract:

The Mackenzie River valley in Canada is North America's great migratory bird flyways with roughly 100 species of migratory birds including some highly endangered species. The Mackenzie Gas Project (MGP) would result in a number of environmental impacts, as the construction work would cause ecological harm to the valley.

A geologist tries to convince the District of North Vancouver to zone the old-growth area of the Mosquito Creek as a protected conservation site. The interest is in the integrity of the entire watershed and the ongoing ability of it to sustain native species.
