Catalysts break a vexing bind
Article Abstract:
Researchers have developed an asymmetric catalyst that produces amino acid compounds of the handedness they need 99% of the time. The catalyst works in pressurized carbon dioxide, a solvent that is much more benign than solvents such as benzene and chloroform, which asymmetric catalysts usually require.

Model enzyme takes hydrogen apart
Article Abstract:
Researchers have developed a hydrogenase model that imitates the function of enzymes in splitting the hydrogen molecule. The metal hydride substitutes ruthenium for the nickel found in the hydrogenase molecule.
