Acid neutralizing capacity of municipal waste incinerator bottom ash

Article Abstract:

Titration is used to determine the acid neutralizing capacity (ANC) of municipal solid waste incinerator (MSWI) bottom ash, which in turn determines the long-term mobility of heavy metals. Results revealed that calcium-containing minerals dominate MSWI bottom ash ANC acting as buffers, particularly calcium carbonate. The mobility of heavy metal cation depends on the consumption of this buffer.

Characterization of flue gas residues from municipal solid waste combustors

Article Abstract:

Analysis of solid flue gas residues gathered from a municipal solid waste incinerator showed that pollutant concentrations are affected by the type of flue gas treatment process and the particle size of flue gas residues, as well as the composition of the municipal solid waste. The residues were found to consist of glass, metals and crystals with polluting elements embedded in these materials.

Speciation of Cr in leachates of a MSWI bottom ash landfill

Article Abstract:

The complexation of chromate coming from the leachate of an ash landfill of a municipal solid waste incinerator was found to be dependent on the presence of sulfates, which increases coprecipitation and solid-solution formation. This may be due to the high concentration of Cr(VI) than Cr(III), which complexes better with sulfates that results in the immobilization of the toxic chromate.
