NSF moves into FastLane to manage flow of grants

Article Abstract:

NSF's FastLane will enable grant applicants to track the progress of their application, manage cash flow and submit final reports. The pilot project, a step towards the goal of a completely electronic grant process, is less ambitious than early attempts by NSF and the National Institutes of Health.

Cold wind blows through Arctic climate project: U.S.-Russian collaborations

Article Abstract:

Russia's Federal Security Bureau confiscated the equipment, logbooks, computers and disks of US polar hydrologist Larry Hinzman, while he was studying the climatology of Russia's Far East. The episode has been repeated with other foreign researchers, complicated by Russia's weak central government.

NSF prepares to dish up Millimeter Array project

Article Abstract:

The Clinton administration is requesting funding to allow NSF to begin construction of the $200 million Millimeter Array. The array is a unique new telescope that will be able to detect electromagnetic emissions at millimeter and submillimeter wavelengths.
