Comparison of high-performance liquid chromatography/fluorescence screening and gas chromatography/mass spectrometry analysis for aromatic compounds in sediments sampled after the Exxon Valdez oil spill

Article Abstract:

The degree and distribution of oiling associated with the grounding of Exxon Valdes were studied by analyzing the sediment samples from the site. A rapid high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC)/fluorescence screening method was used to analyze the sediments for Prudhoe Bay crude oil. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) determined concentrations of individual aromatic compounds (ACs) in the sediments. ACs measured by HPLC were found to be highly correlated to the amount ascertained by GC/MS.

Characterization of groundwater samples from Superfund sites by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography/mass spectrometry

Article Abstract:

Groundwater samples from Superfund sites were analyzed to determine the levels of organic carbon constituents. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometric (GS/MS) analysis indicated the presence of high levels of organic acids that range from 15%-86% in the groundwater water samples taken from four Superfund sites. High levels of inorganic salts that are not detectable by conventional methods were also identified from the four groundwater samples by utilizing the GS/MS method.

Identification in a chlorinated municipal wastewater by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry

Article Abstract:

The qualitative identification of N-chloroaldimines in the ether extracts concentrate of chlorinated municipal waters is discussed. Ether extraction isolated the compounds from the wastewater, were concentrated by Kuderna-Danish evaporation and analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry. Four compounds with varying degrees of confidence were identified from the sample.
