Study of the mechanisms of cadmium biosorption by dealginated seaweed waste
Article Abstract:
This study examines the use of dealginated seaweed waste, material taken from the processing of seaweed for alginate production, for the removal of cadmium from water. Water contaminated with toxic heavy metals is a worldwide problem which has focused efforts on developing alternative methods to remove the pollutants. Using low-cost waste materials to absorb the metal ions has been a proven economic solution for this problem.

Cadmium biosorption rate in protonated Sargassum biomass
Article Abstract:
Sargassum fluitans biomass has been shown by researcher to reduce the levels of cadmium in wastewater. However, as the biomass sorption of cadmium continues, protons are released, which reduces the pH below the desired level of pH 4.0. At this point, cadmium is no longer removed from the water. Thus, maintaining proper pH levels is important. Researchers proposed here a numerical solution scheme, based upon a one-dimensional plate, to enable prediction of the dynamic behavior of cadmium binding.
