Court favors drug 'concept' over proof

A judge ruled that Burroughs Wellcome has sole patent rights to the anti-HIV drug AZT because the company first conceived the drug, even though the National Institutes of Health helped to prove its effectiveness. Two generic drug companies involved in the suit plan to appeal.

Scripps-Sandoz deal comes under fire
Article Abstract:
The National Institutes of Health will investigate the propriety of a contract between Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation and Sandoz Pharma Ltd. The contract would give Sandoz the rights to technology that federal research funds helped to develop.

Scripps backs down on controversial Sandoz deal
