Degradation of organophosphorus pesticides and their transformation products in estuarine waters

Article Abstract:

The stability of organophosphorus pesticides in estuarine waters was studied. Samples of estuarine water were brought to the laboratory and spiked with organophosphorus pesticides at a concentration near the concentration found in estuarine environments. The results showed that fenamiphos, disulfoton, malathion, fenthion and temephos were stable for less than one week, while diazinon, chlorpyrifos-methyl and methidathion had a half-life of about one week. Isofenphos and pyridafenthion had a half-life of about 10 days. The half-life of the pesticide transformation products disulfoton sulfoxide, fenthion sulfoxide and disulfoton sulfone was seven to 12 days.

Persistence of temephos and its transformation products in rice crop field waters

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted on temephos from two different rice crop field water samples proceeding aerial spraying application. Off-line solid phase extraction with C18 Empore extraction disks, liquid chromatography (LC)/DAD and LC/thermospray mass spectrometry detection were performed. Temephos isomer and temephos sulfoxide were detected after spraying, suggesting their existence in the formulation.

Stability of organophosphorus pesticides on disposable solid-phase extraction precolumns

Article Abstract:

Disposable solid-phase extraction precolumns were used to monitor the stability of 19 organophosphorus (OP) pesticides under different storage conditions for different periods of time. In general, degradation proceeded rapidly for OP pesticides stored at higher temperatures and at shorter storage times relative to the other columns.
