Determination of 1,3-, 1-6, and 1,8-dinitropyrenes and 1-nitropyrene in urban air by high-performance liquid chromatography using chemiluminescence detection
Article Abstract:
The trace levels of 1,3, 1-6- and 1,8-initropyrenes and 1-nitropyrene in urban air were measured using a high-performance liquid chromatographic method with chemiluminescence detection. Air samples were collected from a busy intersection in downtown Kanazawa, Japan, by means of a high-volume air sampler. The compounds were extracted from the samples using several reagents prior to the chromatogaphic tests. Measured correlation coefficients between the compounds' concentration levels and the traffic volume indicate that automobiles were the major source of particulate emissions in urban areas.

Distribution of industrial air emissions by income and race in the United States: an approach using the toxic release inventory
Article Abstract:
Important methodological concerns involved in assessing the national and regional distribution of specific industrial emissions based on ethnic factors and socioeconomic status were examined. Results revealed that in the US, ethnic groups, household income, industrial facilities and air emissions are unequally distributed. In addition, county-level emissions were found to vary by ethnic group and household income.
