Uncharacteristic earthquakes on the San Andreas fault
Article Abstract:
Data from the Carrizo Plain and other San Andreas fault sites are calling into question the validity of the characteristic earthquake model. Research indicates that earthquake recurrence times and rupture patterns are variable rather than predictably repetitious.

Earthquakes cannot be predicted
Article Abstract:
New research indicates that the location and time of earthquakes cannot be predicted. Earthquakes are caused by sudden fractures in geological faults, and fault zones are not easily measured. Small earthquakes can trigger larger tremors.
