Egypt gives priority to rolling back desert
Article Abstract:
The Egyptian government attempts to reclaim the desert has seen the integration of human and desert land resources to initiate productive desert settlements. Current policies encourage individuals, private companies, and social organizations to pool in efforts for desert development. Along with water, energy is critical to developing the socioeconomic base of desert communities. However, radical changes need to be undertaken to conserve precious resources such as water. Improved irrigation procedures, removal of subsidies, and desalination are some of the ways to conserve water.

Firms stick with Asia despite losses
Article Abstract:
Majority of the engineering and construction companies based in Asia are still optimistic despite the financial crisis sweeping the region. Parsons Brinckerhoff Chmn Bob Prieto maintains that the economic factors that drew them to the region, such as high savings rates, large populations and growing infrastructure and transportation requirements, are still present. However, some executives are alarmed about the prospects for two major constructions, namely, the $1 billion deep sewer tunnel in Singapore and the $10 billion rail program in Taiwan.
