Energy efficiency means no regrets
Article Abstract:
Moves to curb greenhouse gas emissions through improvements in energy efficiency represent a no-regrets policy based on cost-effectiveness. Despite misgivings about the soundness of this strategy, the flaws inherent in the market economy offer vast opportunities for profitable investments in energy conservation. Such investments financed by the Norwegian Oil and Energy Department have shown profitable returns as well as having a positive impact on the environment. However, many companies find it difficult to invest in profitable energy-efficient opportunities due to institutional hurdles.
