Europeans Who Do Postdocs Abroad Face Reentry Problems
Article Abstract:
Postdoctoral researchers in Europe are frequently encouraged to do their research fellowships outside of their countries, but then they face difficulties when trying to reintegrate themselves into the scientific communities of their homelands. Some countries offer no funding for domestic postdoctoral researchers.

The scholarly journal 'Science' has opened a Europe Office and has added 15 new reviewing editors to its board, 14 of them from Europe. These moves will give the expanding number of European contributors more timely access to editorial functions and evaluation of their manuscripts.

European elites envy American cohesion
Article Abstract:
Chemical research in Europe is excellent but separated into subdisciplines. Europe lacks the central funding, major research centers and a cohesive society that exist in the US. Many scientists are pushing for continental organization, but some are wary of EC bureaucracy.
