Finally, a hotter superconductor

Article Abstract:

Scientists at the Eidgenossische Technische Hochschule have discovered a superconducting material that retains superconductivity up to 133 degrees Kelvin. The material is made of mercury, barium, copper and oxygen. The toxic nature of mercury will probably prevent the material from having any commercial application.

Theory meets experiment in high-T superconductivity

Article Abstract:

Two groups of physicists working independently have introduced competing theories of high-temperature superconductivity that are unique from earlier theories because they are both specific enough to be tested. The theories are briefly described and contrasted.
