Quantum magnetism and its many avatars
Article Abstract:
A discussion of cuprate high-temperature superconductors is presented. These are derived from the addition of charge carriers to parent compounds. The magnetic properties of the parent compounds obey the quantum spin-Heisenberg model, whereby neighboring spins are antiparallel.

Duality in perspective
Article Abstract:
Theory and experimental research suggests that the quantum Hall localization transition may exhibit the special feature of 'self-duality.' Research exploring the physical consequences of duality symmetry in condensed matter systems is discussed.
