HIV's other immune-system targets: macrophages
Article Abstract:
Research presented at an Oct 1996 meeting of more than 100 AIDS experts in Varenna, Italy, indicates that the study of macrophages may provide answers to several unresolved AIDS research questions. Among other possibilities, macrophages may be key virus production sites and gateways to the brain.

How does HIV overcome the body's T cell bodyguards?
Article Abstract:
Researchers have been unsuccessful in determining how HIV depletes the body's store of T helper cells. The results of a new study indicate that the strength of the immune response is directly related to the viral load and can be maintained if anti-viral drugs are administered early.
