Article Abstract:

Health-care financing changes are hurting funding for clinical researchers, who may find themselves in an unhealthy rivalry with basic biomedical researchers for public funds. HMOs that take over the financing for academic hospitals are taking profits instead of putting them back into research.

NIH launches the final push to sequence the genome

Article Abstract:

The National Center for Human Genome Research at NIH is set to launch six grants for human genome-sequencing projects, totalling $60 million over three years. Director Francis Collins wants to move past the chromosome mapping stage and wants data to be published as quickly as possible.
