Innovation and new product development in the UK medical equipment industry

Article Abstract:

Evaluation of innovation processes in the UK medical equipment industry reveals that essential factors for innovation success are network actor integration activities, sequential learning process management, knowledge social linking and credibility creation. The survey takes into account 34 UK medical equipment innovations by 11 companies where 26 were developed through continuous interaction between the entrepreneurs and the other actors in the network.

Analysis of Management of Medical Technology (MMT) as an academic field reveals that it is a complex area of research, education and practice. MMT includes an entire spectrum of medical technology and a wide range of situations and organizations and is not confined to high-technology end of diagnostic and curative machines, systems and apparati and that all serve to set the academic boundaries of MMT and are charting opportunities in this new field.

Accountability in the acquisition and use of medical technologies

Article Abstract:

The acquisition and use of medical technologies has entered a new era where accountability is demanded. An approach to the evolution of medical technology is presented. A process for technology management is also suggested. A technology manager and management team is recommended to develop acquisition and use of technology from assessment of clinical needs to technology application.
