Congress' decision to abolish the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) will likely undermine the federal government's science and technology programs. OTA's demise will deprive the government and the private sector of a policymaking body that helps promote technological advancement.

Arrest that passenger: traveling with technology - perhaps even a laptop - can be illegal

Article Abstract:

US laws controlling the export of 'sophisticated' technologies have become obsolete. Under existing regulations, it can be illegal for people to bring out of the country devices as commonplace as cellular telephones and commercially-available software programs.

Parrots and plunders; are monk parakeets pests? Ornithologists aren't sure

Article Abstract:

Ornithologists claim that monk parakeets, a species of parrot that builds its own nest, are highly queer breed of birds, rather than pests. Although associated with widespread crop damage, these birds lack the mobility, feeding and breeding attributes of pests.
