Maine's seven-step program
Article Abstract:
The Maine Rural Development Council has proposed a seven-step program designed to build vibrant communities while protecting the state's environment and natural resources at the same time. Maine is the third most rural state in the US, with 55% of its citizens living outside of urban areas. The plan would target Maine's economically-distressed areas, attract new businesses, offer the latest technology, alleviate poverty, develop civic capacity, mobilize higher education in rural development and enhance transportation in the state.

Sub-Saharan African women benefit from new programs
Article Abstract:
Women from sub-Saharan Africa are about to receive family planning advice, thanks to population programmes launched at United Nations conferences in 1994 and 1995. The programmes will concentrate on raising the African woman's position in society by providing contraception and education. The Zimbabwean government was forced to educate its public on sexually transmitted diseases such as AIDS in the early 1990s. Some governments have introduced training programs to educate trainers.
